CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology, which is located in Jorhat, Assam, has released a new job notification for the year 2026. The recruitment is for Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and Driver posts. The advertisement number is 01/2026-REC.

What is CSIR-NEIST?
CSIR-NEIST is one of the leading research institutes in Northeast India. It works under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, which comes under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. The institute is based in Jorhat, Assam, and it does research work in many scientific areas for the benefit of the country and its people.

Educational Qualification
For MTS — You just need to have passed Class 10th or any equivalent examination. If you have passed Class 12th as well, that is considered an added advantage but it is not compulsory.
For Driver — You need to have passed Class 10th, and along with that you must hold a valid driving licence for both Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV). You should also have at least 3 years of driving experience after getting the licence, and you should have basic knowledge of how a vehicle works so that you can handle minor repairs on your own.

This is the approximate total amount including all allowances like Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and Transport Allowance. On top of this, employees also get medical reimbursement, leave travel concession, and other benefits as per CSIR rules. All new employees will be covered under the National Pension System (NPS).
Age Limit
For MTS, the upper age limit is 25 years. For Driver, the upper age limit is 27 years.

Please note that government employees applying from Central or State Government departments will not get any age relaxation for these posts.
What Will You Have to Do at Work?
For MTS, the work is general in nature. You may be asked to maintain files and records, do basic cleaning and upkeep of the office, carry documents between sections, do photocopying, deliver internal mail, serve tea or snacks to guests, look after the guest house, maintain garden areas, assist in basic repair work like plumbing or carpentry, and any other task given by your senior officers. Shift duties may also be required sometimes.
For Driver, the main job is to drive LMV and HMV vehicles to transport staff and materials safely. You will also be responsible for keeping the vehicle clean and in proper working condition at all times.

The fee must be paid only through SBI Collect (State Bank Collect). If you pay through any other method, your application will be rejected. After paying, download the receipt and save it carefully. You will need to enter the transaction number in your application form.
To pay via SBI Collect, follow this path: State Bank Collect → Educational Institute → Director NEIST → Application Fee → Select Post Code → Make Payment.
How to Apply – Simple Steps
Step 1 — Go to the official website www.neist.res.in
Step 2 — Find the recruitment section and open the Advertisement No. 01/2026-REC.
Step 3 — Read all the instructions carefully before you start filling the form.
Step 4 — Go to the application portal at recruitment.neist.res.in and click on “New Registration.”
Step 5 — Complete your registration. The system will give you a Registration ID. Write it down immediately because you will not receive any SMS or email with this ID.
Step 6 — Log in with your Registration ID and fill in the application form carefully with all the correct details.
Step 7 — Pay the fee through SBI Collect and enter the transaction number in the form.
Step 8 — Upload all required documents in PDF format.
Step 9 — Check everything once more and then submit the form.
Step 10 — Take a printout of your submitted application and keep it safe. You do not need to send any hard copy to the institute.
One very important thing — once you submit the application, you cannot withdraw it and the fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Selection Process
The exact mode of selection has not been announced yet. It will be notified separately on the CSIR-NEIST website. Candidates should keep checking the official website regularly for any updates. Generally, for such posts, selection is done through a written examination, trade test, or skill test.
A Few Important Things to Keep in Mind
You must be an Indian citizen to apply. Make sure you meet all eligibility conditions before filling the form. If you are applying for more than one post, you need to submit a separate application and pay a separate fee for each post. Any kind of canvassing or trying to influence the selection process will directly lead to disqualification. After selection, candidates will be on probation for two years. The institute has the right to cancel or modify the recruitment at any stage without giving any reason.
