A Little About SCERT Assam

The State Council of Educational Research and Training, better known as SCERT Assam, is a government body working under the Department of Education, Government of Assam. It is headquartered in Kahilipara, Guwahati and is responsible for teacher education and training across the state. Every year SCERT Assam conducts the Pre-Entry Test for admissions into the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education course which is one of the most popular teacher training programs for students in Assam who wish to build a career in primary level teaching.

Who Can Apply – Eligibility Criteria

Before you start filling the application form make sure you meet all the requirements given below:

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary (Class 12 or 10+2) examination from any recognised Board or Council with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Marks obtained in optional, extra, or fourth subjects will not be counted while calculating the aggregate percentage.

For candidates belonging to SC, ST(P), and ST(H) categories there is a relaxation of 5% in the minimum marks requirement, meaning they can apply with 45% marks.

Age Limit: The minimum age to apply is 18 years and the maximum age is 34 years as on 1st July 2026. Candidates from SC, ST(P), and ST(H) categories will get an additional relaxation of 2 years in the upper age limit.

Residency: Only permanent residents of Assam are eligible to apply for this admission.

Application Fee

The fee can be paid online through Internet Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, or UPI during the application process. The fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Seat Reservation Policy

Admission to the D.El.Ed course is granted on the basis of district-wise merit list prepared from PET scores. The seat distribution within each district is as follows:

Additional reservation for OBC/MOBC, SC, ST(P), ST(H), PwD, and EWS categories will be as per the Assam Government Reservation Policy.

Where Will the Course Be Offered

The D.El.Ed course is conducted at NCTE recognised Teacher Education Institutes across Assam including:

• District Institute of Education and Training (DIET)
• College of Teacher Education (CTE)
• Normal Schools
• Block Institute of Teacher Education (BITE)
• Block Training Centre (BTC)
• Approved Private Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs)

The exam centre will be allocated in the district selected by the candidate during the application process and the same will be mentioned in the admit card.

How to Apply – Step by Step Process

Step 1: Open your browser and go to the official SCERT PET registration portal at https://scertpet.co.in/register

Step 2: On the Candidate Registration page fill in your basic details carefully — salutation, first name, last name, father name, mother name, gender, category, date of birth, and contact details including your phone number and email address.

Step 3: Enter your educational qualification details. Make sure you enter your Higher Secondary marks correctly as the aggregate percentage will determine your eligibility.

Step 4: Select your preferred district for the exam centre. Keep in mind that your seat allotment after the PET result will also be based on the district you choose here.

Step 5: Upload the required documents in the correct format as specified on the registration page.

Step 6: Proceed to the payment section and pay the application fee of Rs. 600/- using any of the available online payment methods — Internet Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, or UPI.

Step 7: After successful payment submit your application form and take a printout or screenshot of the confirmation page for your future records.

Step 8: Keep visiting the official website regularly for admit card download from 5 July 2026 onwards.
