About Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS)

SSUHS is a state university established by the Government of Assam in 2009 under the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences Act, 2007. Exam Centres Across Assam

The GNM Entrance Examination 2026 will be held at 13 locations across Assam. Students from different parts of the state do not need to travel all the way to Guwahati. The exam centres are: Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Jorhat, Barpeta, Tezpur, Diphu, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Dhubri, and Kokrajhar.

The exam is straightforward and not overly complicated. There is only one paper and it covers three subjects:

Key things to know about the exam pattern:

  • All questions are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) — each question has 4 options.
  • Each correct answer carries 1 mark.
  • There is NO negative marking. If you get a wrong answer, you will not lose any marks. So attempt all 100 questions.
  • Questions will be printed in both English and Assamese. However, you must fill in the OMR answer sheet in English only.
  • All questions are based on Class 10 (HSLC) standard.

Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria for GNM 2026

1. Nationality

You must be a citizen of India. If you are applying for a seat in a Government institute in Assam, you will also need a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) of Assam.

2. Age Requirement

You must be at least 17 years old as on 31st December 2026. There is no maximum age limit mentioned in the notice.

3. Educational Qualification

You need to satisfy at least one of the following:

  1. You have passed 10+2 (Class 12) with English from any recognised board and scored at least 40% overall. Science background is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates from State Open School and NIOS are also eligible.
  2. You have passed 10+2 with English and 40% marks in Vocational ANM course from an Indian Nursing Council recognised school.
  3. You have passed 10+2 with English and 40% marks in Vocational Stream — Health Care Science from a recognised CBSE board, State, or Centre.
  4. You are a Registered ANM with pass marks.

4. Medical Fitness

You must be medically fit. A medical fitness certificate will be required at the time of counselling and admission.

How to Apply for GNM Entrance Exam 2026: Step-by-Step Process

The application process is completely online. You do not need to go to any office or send any document by post. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official website: www.ssuhs.ac.in
  2. Find and click on the link for the GNM Entrance Examination 2026 application form.
  3. Register yourself with basic details like name, date of birth, and mobile number.
  4. Fill in the complete application form carefully with all your personal and educational details.
  5. Upload the required documents such as your photo and signature.
  6. Pay the application fee online through the university payment gateway.
  7. Submit the form and save or print the confirmation page.
  8. Save your Application Number and Password — you will need these to download your Admit Card.

How to Download the Admit Card

Admit cards will be available from 14th June 2026 on the official website www.ssuhs.ac.in. Log in using your Application Number and Password to download it.

The admit card is mandatory for entry to the exam hall. Also carry a valid photo ID (Aadhaar Card, school ID, or voter card) on exam day.

How the Merit List Will Be Prepared

After the exam, SSUHS will prepare a merit list based on marks scored by each candidate. If two candidates score the same total marks, the tie will be broken in the following order:

  1. More marks in English in the entrance exam.
  2. More marks in General Science in the entrance exam.
  3. More marks in Mathematics in the entrance exam.
  4. If still tied, Class 10 (HSLC) board marks in English, then General Science, then Mathematics will be used.

Seat Reservation and Admission Process

Seat reservation for Government institutes will follow Assam Government reservation norms. The detailed distribution of seats will be announced separately by the Directorate of Health Services, Assam.

Document verification for eligibility and reservation will be done at the time of counselling — not during the application stage.

Tips to Prepare for GNM Entrance Exam 2026

  • English carries 50 marks — focus heavily on grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • For Mathematics, revise Class 9 and 10 topics like arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and basic statistics.
  • For General Science, revise Biology, Physics, and Chemistry from SEBA or NCERT Class 9 and 10 textbooks.
  • Practice previous year nursing entrance exam question papers.
  • Since there is no negative marking, attempt all 100 questions — never leave anything blank.
  • You have 2 hours for 100 questions — that is about 72 seconds per question. Manage your time wisely.

Q1. Can Arts students apply for GNM Entrance Exam 2026? Yes. Students from any stream — Science, Arts, or Commerce — can apply, as long as they have English as a subject in Class 12 and have scored at least 40% marks.
