The Joint CSIR-UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) is a national-level competitive exam conducted by NTA on behalf of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). It is held to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for:

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) — for those who want to pursue research in science and technology
  • Appointment as Assistant Professor — for those aiming to teach in Indian universities and colleges
  • Admission to Ph.D. programs — both with and without fellowship
CSIR is one of India’s most prestigious R&D organizations, covering fields like chemical sciences, life sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, and mathematical sciences. Qualifying this exam opens doors to some of the best research institutes and universities in the country.

The CSIR NET June 2026 exam will be held over two days — July 17 and 18, 2026 — in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The exam will be conducted in two shifts each day:

Candidates can apply for any one of the following five subject papers:

Applying for CSIR NET June 2026 is a straightforward process. Just follow these steps carefully:

Step 1 – Visit the Official Website Go to the official NTA CSIR NET portal: https://csirnet.nta.nic.in

Step 2 – New Registration If you are a first-time applicant, click on “New Registration.” Fill in your basic personal details, email address, and mobile number to create your login credentials.

Step 3 – Fill the Application Form Log in with your application number and password. Fill in all required information including personal details, educational qualifications, subject choice, and exam city preference.

Step 4 – Upload Documents Upload a recent passport-size photograph, your signature, and other required documents in the specified format and size.

Step 5 – Pay the Application Fee Complete the fee payment online using your preferred payment method before June 20, 2026 (11:50 PM).

Step 6 – Download Confirmation Page After successful payment, download and save your confirmation page. Keep the confirmation page safely, as it will be required for future reference.


The last date to submit the online application form is June 19, 2026 till 11:59 PM. Candidates must also complete their fee payment by June 20, 2026 till 11:50 PM through online payment modes.

The exam will be conducted on July 17 and 18, 2026 in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The exam will take place across various cities and centres all over India.

Candidates who have completed or are appearing in the final year of M.Sc. / Integrated BS-MS / BS-4 years / BE / B.Tech / B.Pharma with minimum 55% marks are eligible. For SC/ST/PwD candidates the minimum marks required is 50%.

For Junior Research Fellowship the maximum age limit is 28 years as on the last date of application. For Assistant Professor or Lectureship there is no upper age limit. A relaxation of 5 years in age is given to SC/ST/PwD/Transgender and Female candidates.

General category candidates need to pay Rs 1100 as application fee. OBC-NCL and EWS candidates need to pay Rs 550. SC/ST/PwD and Transgender candidates need to pay Rs 275. Fee can be paid online through Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking or UPI.

There are five subjects available — Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Earth Atmospheric Ocean and Planetary Sciences. Candidates can choose and apply for any one subject only.

The total exam duration is 3 hours that is 180 minutes. The morning shift runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon and the evening shift runs from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Candidates will be allotted one shift as per their admit card.
