Assam Agricultural University, which is commonly known as AAU, has officially started the admission process for the academic session 2026-27. The online application portal is already open and students can register and apply through the official website.
AAU is one of the top agricultural universities in India. It was established in 1969 and is located in Jorhat, Assam. It holds ICAR accreditation and has been ranked 18th in the Agriculture and Allied Sectors category in the NIRF India Rankings 2025. So getting admitted here is genuinely a great opportunity for students from Assam and the Northeast region.
About the University
AAU currently has six colleges under it. These are the College of Agriculture at Jorhat, Biswanath College of Agriculture at Biswanath Chariali, Sarat Chandra Singha College of Agriculture at Chapar Dhubri, College of Community Science at Jorhat, College of Horticulture and Farming System Research at Nalbari, and College of Sericulture at Titabar. Each of these colleges offers different undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and admissions to all of them happen through a single common process.

Total UG Seats: 543
HFC means Higher Fee Category. Students from the Northeast region can get these seats purely on merit. No reservation applies here but the fee charged is higher than the regular category.
Eligibility for Undergraduate Admission
To apply for the undergraduate programs, you need to meet the following basic requirements:
For B.Sc. Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture and Integrated B.Tech-M.Tech program:
You must have passed your Higher Secondary or Class 12 exam with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Physics, Chemistry and Agriculture or Biology, Chemistry and Agriculture as your subjects. Students who are appearing in their Class 12 exam can also apply but they must pass before the date of admission.
For General, OBC and UPS category students, a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate is required. Students who belong to SC, ST or DAC category need to have at least 40% marks in their Class 12 to be eligible.
For B.Sc. Community Science and Food Nutrition and Dietetics:
You need to have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Physics, Chemistry and Agriculture or Biology, Chemistry and Agriculture or Physics, Chemistry and Home Science. The same percentage criteria applies as mentioned above.
Minimum age requirement for all UG programs is 16 years as on 1st August 2026, which means you must have been born before 1st August 2010.
Entrance Examination Details
Admission into all undergraduate programs is done through a Common Entrance Test. This is called CET-UG-AAU26. Here are the key details:
The exam will be a Computer Based Test. The total duration is 2 hours. The question paper will have 160 Multiple Choice Questions in total. There will be 40 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.
To apply for the regular seats, you must be a resident of Assam, and you will need a valid Permanent Residence Certificate to prove that. Students from the Northeast region can apply for HFC seats. Students whose parents are Defense or Paramilitary personnel serving in Assam for at least one year are also eligible.
The exam will be held at various center’s located across different districts of Assam. The list of centers and exam dates will be published on the official AAU website.
How to Apply – Step by Step
Step 1 — Visit the official admission portal at https://admission.aau.ac.in/2026/
Step 2 — Click on Register and create your account using a valid personal email ID and mobile number. You will receive a verification link on your email and a confirmation on your mobile. Both need to be verified to complete registration.
Step 3 — Once registered, log in and upload your passport size photograph and signature in JPEG format. Each file should be maximum 100KB.
Step 4 — Fill in all your personal and academic details carefully in the application form. Upload all required documents in PDF format. Each document should be maximum 150KB.
Step 5 — Review your form completely before submitting. Once you submit the form, no changes can be made. So check everything twice before clicking submit.
Step 6 — After submitting the form, pay the application fee of Rs. 1500 through the online payment gateway. No other payment method is accepted.
Step 7 — After successful payment, an acknowledgement sheet will appear. Do not forget to save or print this page as it will be needed at the time of counselling and admission.

- Mark sheets from Class 10 onwards in PDF format, maximum 150KB each

- Caste certificate in PDF, if applicable. OBC candidates must submit a Non-Creamy Layer certificate valid till the date of admission

- Gap Certificate from local police authority in PDF, if there is a gap in studies
- EWS Certificate in PDF, if applicable, valid for the year 2026-27

Application Fee
The application fee for all candidates is Rs. 1500. This is the fee for the online application form and Information Bulletin. Payment must be made only through the integrated online payment gateway on the admission portal.

Important Note for All Applicants
ABC ID which stands for Academic Bank of Credits is now mandatory for all students as per the National Education Policy 2020. You must create your ABC ID before completing your admission process. To create it, log in to your DigiLocker account, search for the Academic Bank of Credits section, select Assam Agricultural University and generate your ABC ID. You can also visit https://www.abc.gov.in/ for this. Your candidature will not be considered for counselling without a valid ABC ID.
