Chest measurement is not taken for female candidates. Weight should be proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.

1. Physical Efficiency Test PET

This is a running race and the first stage of the selection process. Male candidates applying for Driver, MMV, Bugler, Tailor, Brass Band, Pipe Band, Cobbler, Carpenter, Painter, Gardner, and similar trades have to run 5 km in 24 minutes. Male candidates for Cook, Water Carrier, Barber, Washer Man, and Safai Karamchari trades need to complete 1.6 km in 10 minutes. Female candidates for most trades must complete 1.6 km within 8.30 minutes. For Cook and similar light duty trades, female candidates get 12 minutes for 1.6 km. Ex-Servicemen are completely exempt from the running race but must appear for physical measurement. There is no appeal against PET results.

2. Physical Standard Test PST

Only those who clear the PET race are called for PST. Height, chest for males, and weight are checked at this stage. Candidates who are not satisfied with the PST result can appeal to the Appellate Authority on the same day through the Presiding Officer. The appellate decision is final and no further appeal is entertained.

3. Computer Based Test CBT

The written examination is conducted online and consists of 100 objective type questions worth 100 marks. The time allowed is 2 hours. There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. The paper is divided into four sections covering General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English or Hindi. Questions are of Matriculation level. The CBT is conducted in Hindi and English medium only.

4. Trade Test

Candidates shortlisted from the CBT appear for a practical skill test in their applied trade. Total marks for the trade test are 50 and a minimum of 20 marks is needed to pass. This test is qualifying only and does not add to your final merit score. Candidates will be asked to perform specific tasks related to their trade such as cooking for 100 persons for a Cook, driving and parking heavy vehicles for a Driver, cutting and stitching uniform cloth for a Tailor, and so on.

5. Document Verification

Original documents are physically checked by a Board of Officers. Candidates must bring originals as well as self attested photocopies of all relevant documents. Any mismatch or missing document will lead to cancellation of candidature.

6. Detailed Medical Examination DME

A thorough medical examination is conducted by CRPF medical officers. X-ray and lab tests are done for those who pass the initial check. Candidates declared unfit can give written consent for a Review Medical Examination usually held the next day. Female candidates found pregnant during medical examination are declared temporarily unfit and their vacancy is kept reserved until six weeks after delivery, after which they are re-examined.

Final Merit

Final selection is based entirely on marks scored in the CBT after normalization. The merit list is prepared separately for male and female candidates, separately for each State and UT, and separately for each category.
