Indira Gandhi National Open University, commonly known as IGNOU, was established in 1985 and is headquartered in New Delhi. It is currently ranked 1 in the Open University category by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 and has earned an A++ grade from NAAC. Over 2.1 crore students have enrolled since its inception, making it one of the largest open universities in the world.

The university operates through 58 Regional Centres, 2,382 Learner Support Centres, and 25 Overseas Study Centres, ensuring that quality education reaches every corner of India and beyond. IGNOU currently offers more than 333 programmes across 21 Schools of Studies, covering fields like Arts, Commerce, Science, Management, Law, Education, and Technology.

Admission to IGNOU is completely merit-based for all courses except BEd, PhD, and Post Basic BSc Nursing, which require a valid entrance exam score. IGNOU

Candidates must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent qualification from a recognized educational board with relevant subjects. A minimum of 50% marks is required for General category candidates, and 45% marks for reserved categories such as OBC, SC, and ST. IGNOU Admission DIY

You will also need your APAAR ID (Academic Bank of Credit ID) created through DigiLocker, and a DEB ID (Distance Education Bureau ID) linked to your ABC ID. Both are mandatory for the admission process.
Follow these steps carefully to complete your IGNOU online application without any issues:

Step 1 – Visit the Official Admission Portal Go to the official IGNOU admission portal at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. Do not use any third-party website for applying.

Step 2 – New Registration If you are a new applicant, click on the “Register” button and create your account. Enter your name, email ID, and mobile number correctly. Both your email and mobile number will be verified through OTP. Choose a username between 8 to 16 characters and set an alphanumeric password of the same length. After filling all mandatory details, click Submit. Your username will be sent to your registered email and phone immediately.

Step 3 – Login to Your Account Once registered, log in using your username and password. If you are an existing student or have already registered, click the “Login” button directly.

Step 4 – Select Your Programme Browse through the available programs and select the one you wish to apply for. Make sure you check the eligibility criteria for that specific program before proceeding. Choose your preferred Regional Centre and Study Centre as well.

Step 5 – Fill the Application Form Fill in your personal details, educational qualifications, and other required information carefully. Double-check every field before moving to the next section.

Step 6 – Upload Required Documents Scan and upload all the required documents in the prescribed format and size. Make sure the files are clear and within the allowed file size limits.

Step 7 – Pay the Application Fee Pay the non-refundable application fee of INR 300 using any of the following payment methods:

Step 8 – Preview and Submit Before final submission, review your application carefully in the preview section. Once satisfied, click Submit. Save or print the confirmation for future reference.

Step 9 – Verification and Confirmation After submission, you will receive a confirmation on your registered email and mobile number. Keep your enrollment number safe for future use.
