SUPT = Skilled Upgradation Practical Trainee. JOT = Junior Operative Trainee. Trainees complete 12 months of training followed by 18 months as JOT before placement at regular T0 Grade.
Educational Qualification – Post Wise
- Operator (HEMM) Gr. III – 10th pass with ITI in Mechanic Motor Vehicle (2 years) or Diesel Mechanic Trade (1 year). Heavy Vehicle Driving Licence is mandatory. Apprenticeship certificate required.
- Mining Mate Gr. III – 10th pass with a valid Mining Mate Certificate of Competency for Opencast Metalliferous Mines issued by DGMS.
- Jr. Foreman (Mines) – Diploma in Mining or Mining Engineering with a valid Mining Foreman Certificate of Competency for Opencast Metalliferous Mines issued by DGMS.
- Jr. Foreman (Electrical) – Diploma in Electrical Engineering (full-time regular course) with a valid Supervisory Certificate of Competency (M.V/H.T/E.H.T) from the Electrical Licensing Board, Odisha, covering Mining installations.
- SUPT(JOT)-Operator / Operator Gr. III – 10th pass with ITI in Electronics Mechanic, Technician Mechatronics, Electrician, Instrumentation, Instrument Mechanic, or Fitter Trade (2 years) along with apprenticeship certificate.
- SUPT(JOT)-Fitter / Technician (Fitter) Gr. III – 10th pass with ITI in Fitter Trade (2 years) and apprenticeship certificate.
- SUPT(JOT)-Electrical / Technician (Electrical) Gr. III – 10th pass with ITI in Electrician Trade (2 years) and apprenticeship certificate.
- SUPT(JOT)-Laboratory – B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry.

Work Experience: All Gr. III posts require 2 years of post-qualification experience in the relevant field. SUPT(JOT) posts require no prior experience.

Selection Process – Step by Step
Step 1 – Computer Based Test (CBT) Every eligible candidate will first appear for an online CBT. The paper has 100 MCQs carrying 1 mark each. Total duration is 120 minutes. The paper includes 60 percent technical or domain-specific questions and 40 percent non-technical questions covering Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, General Knowledge, and English. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
Step 2 – Trade Test (for SUPT/JOT posts only) Candidates applying for posts at Sl. No. 5, 7, 9, 11, and 12 will also appear for a Trade Test after the CBT. The final merit is calculated with 60 percent weightage for CBT and 40 percent for Trade Test. For all remaining posts, selection is based on CBT performance alone.
Step 3 – Document Verification Candidates shortlisted after CBT or Trade Test will be called for original certificate verification at a NALCO centre.
Step 4 – Pre-Employment Medical Examination Final placement is subject to the candidate being declared medically fit by the Company’s Medical Officer or Board. The medical decision is final and binding.

Salary and Training Benefits
- Regular employees at T0 Grade draw a pay scale of Rs. 29,500 to Rs. 70,000 with 3 percent annual increment, plus all standard allowances applicable to regular NALCO employees.
- S0 Grade employees (Jr. Foreman posts) draw Rs. 36,500 to Rs. 1,15,000 with the same increment structure.
- SUPT(JOT) trainees receive a fixed monthly stipend of Rs. 12,000 during the first 12 months of training.
- During the 18-month JOT period that follows, the stipend is Rs. 15,000 per month for the first 12 months and Rs. 15,500 per month for the last 6 months.
- During training, candidates and their families are covered under NALCO’s medical facility for both indoor and outdoor treatment at the NALCO Hospital.
- After successful completion of the full training period and meeting all performance requirements, candidates are absorbed into regular employment at T0 Grade.
