Introduction
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, widely known as POWERGRID or PGCIL, has officially opened applications for over 660 non-executive positions across its regions and projects in India. This is one of the most anticipated government job notifications of 2026, particularly for diploma holders, ITI graduates, and Inter CA/CMA candidates looking for a stable and rewarding career in a Maharatna Public Sector Enterprise.
The recruitment covers six post categories — Diploma Trainee in Electrical, Civil, and Survey disciplines, Junior Officer Trainee in HR and Finance & Accounts, and Junior Technician Trainee in Survey. Vacancies also exist under the wholly owned subsidiary, Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL), for select posts.
If you are based in Assam or anywhere in the North-Eastern Region, this is particularly relevant for you, as 33 dedicated vacancies exist under the North-Eastern Region covering Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura, with exam centres at Guwahati, Shillong, and Dibrugarh.
The application window opened on 20 April 2026 and closes on 11 May 2026 at 11:59 PM. Do not wait until the last day.
About POWERGRID
POWERGRID is a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise functioning under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. It is one of the largest power transmission utilities in the world, operating around 1,84,960 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 291 sub-stations. The corporation also manages approximately 1,00,000 kilometres of telecom network with a presence in roughly 500 cities across the country.
For the financial year 2024-25, POWERGRID posted a gross turnover of Rs. 45,792.32 crore and a profit after tax of Rs. 15,521.44 crore — a company that has remained profitable since the day it was established.
India is currently working towards 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. To support this national goal, a capital investment of Rs. 9.16 lakh crore is planned in the transmission sector by 2032. POWERGRID’s own share in this expansion stands at Rs. 3.06 lakh crore, covering inter-state and intra-state transmission systems, cross-border projects, solar generation, smart metering, and data centre businesses. This recruitment drive is a direct result of this massive infrastructure push.
Posts and Qualifications
There are six posts being filled through this recruitment. Each comes with a specific educational requirement, and it is important to note that candidates holding higher qualifications than what is prescribed are not eligible.
Diploma Trainee — Electrical (DTE): You need a full-time three-year diploma in Electrical, Electrical (Power), Electrical and Electronics, Power Systems Engineering, or Power Engineering (Electrical) from a recognised technical board or institute. General, OBC (NCL), and EWS candidates must have secured a minimum of 70% marks. SC, ST, and PwBD candidates need only pass marks. Candidates who hold a B.Tech, BE, M.Tech, or ME degree — with or without a diploma — are not eligible to apply.
Diploma Trainee — Civil (DTC): A full-time three-year diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised technical board is required, again with a minimum of 70% for general category candidates. The same restriction on higher qualifications applies here as well.
Diploma Trainee — Survey (DTS): This post requires a full-time three-year diploma in Survey Engineering, or a diploma in Civil Engineering where survey was a subject, with a minimum of 70% marks. Candidates with a B.E. or B.Tech degree are not eligible.
Junior Officer Trainee — HR (JOT HR): You must hold a three-year full-time regular graduate degree in BBA, BBM, BBS, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university, with a minimum of 60% marks for general, EWS, and OBC (NCL) candidates. Candidates who possess a postgraduate degree or postgraduate diploma are not eligible.
Junior Officer Trainee — Finance and Accounts (JOT F&A): The required qualification is Inter CA or Inter CMA. Candidates who have already completed their CA or CMA, or hold a postgraduate degree or diploma, are not eligible for this post.
Junior Technician Trainee — Survey (JTT Survey): This post requires a full-time two-year ITI certificate in the Surveyor trade from a recognised technical board, government-approved ITI, NCVET, or SCVT-affiliated institute. Candidates holding a diploma or any degree are not eligible.
At both the time of application and the time of joining, each candidate must submit an undertaking confirming they do not possess any higher qualification than what is prescribed. If this is found to be false at any stage, the application will be rejected or services terminated.
